The 77th Cannes Film Festival opened a few days ago, attracting many movie stars to attend. The film TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) was selected for the "Midnight Screening" segment as the Hong Kong representative, and director Soi Cheang Pou Soi recently led stars Louis Koo Tin Lok, Raymond Lam Fung, Terrance Lau Chun Him, Tony Wu Tsz Tung and German Cheung Man Kit to fly there to build momentum. In addition to attending the press conference, they even appeared at the premiere there yesterday and walk on the red carpet. They received an enthusiastic response, and the audience applauded for nearly 10 minutes after the "Midnight Screening". Cheang Pou Soi was happy about the success of Hong Kong-made action movies, which meant a lot to him. Louis Koo hopes that bringing the Kowloon Walled City back to life through the film would boost Hong Kong's tourism industry. The production team announced yesterday that it was preparing to shoot the TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS trilogy.

Actually Hong Kong films have been missing from Cannes for many years. The last Hong Kong film was selected for the "Midnight Screening" was the 2013 movie BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM), so when a group of sharply dressed men stepped on the red carpet the flash bulbs flashed non-stop. Aside from Koo Tin Lok, who the media and the fans were asking for photos and autographs, Lam Fung who stepped foot in Cannes for the firs time was also very popular. All of his fan-spoiling acts like signing autographs, taking selfies and chatting were caught on the event's live broadcast. Even though earlier he was said to be swollen and old, he seemed to have successfully lost weight and beyond handsome on the red carpet. After the midnight premiere of TWILIGHT, the audience stood up and cheered one after another for 10 minutes of cheer and applause. Cheung Man Kit and Wu Tsz Tung were moved to tears. Cheang Pou Soi would like to thank the audience. "This film was very fortunate to have an awesome production team and actors, they are some of the best artists in Hong Kong. For me, this movie is very meaningful and significant, and I would like to thank them and the Cannes Film Festival for choosing this very domestic action film, and many thanks to the selection committee and the chairman. I also want to thanks Kinnie Cheung and Angus Chan; only because they persevered for 8 years this film came out. I hope I will have another film to show everyone in Cannes in the future." The audience gathered around the director and actors, asked for autographs, took photos and hug them. However, they still did not steal the spotlight like Koo Tin Lok did. Because he rarely broke his previously beyond cool image, when he put up his dukes to pose for pictures the result was unexpectedly cute.

Cheang Pou Soi admitted that he has never never fantasized about setting foot in Cannes. "Of course I was happy when I found out, and I am the happiest that a domestic action movie can be so successful." Koo Tin Lok joked, "It's only because you are talented!" Cheang Pou Soi responded, "Everyone has a share! I only got this talented when I found you!" Being able to bring a film full of Hong Kong nostalgia to Cannes, Cheang Pou Soi said, "I am very happy; I just talked to the reporters about this movie, and they felt it too." Koo Tin Lok also talked about the revival of the already demolished Kowloon Walled City. "The Kowloon Walled City has been demolished, and we hope to revive the Walled City, to a certain extent, in the hope of boosting Hong Kong's tourism industry." He also joked that coming to Cannes, he would have to get enough sleep and delicious seafood platters.

The "Four Sons of the Walled City" all expressed their deep feelings for their first visit to Cannes, and Lam Fung gave special thanks to the director, "I never imagined that we brothers could come to Cannes together and promote Hong Kong films to audiences all over the world. We will continue to work hard." Lau Chun Him also said, "Just like a pioneering act, I am able participate with the Master Class (referring to Cheang Pou Soi and Koo Tin Lok). I have never thought that I could come to such a big film festival, I am so happy." Wu Tsz Tung said frankly that he would like to thank the whole team, otherwise he would not have the opportunity to participate in a large-scale film festival. From the film being selected to everything else all felt fresh to him, and he often reminded himself to enjoy them. Cheung Man Kit smiled and pointed out that he felt that he was still dreaming and he didn't know if it was true. Koo Tin Lok who was next to him joked that that was why he told everyone to get enough sleep.

The team also attended the "Hong Kong Night" reception, during which Koo Tin Lok expressed his hope to introduce the film to the world, "Because the Kowloon Walled City has been demolished, we have the feeling of having been there firsthand. We hope to introduce it to everyone in the world through the film, for them to know that we used to have a Kowloon Walled City." Lam Fung said, "We four sons had a farewell scene with Koo Tin Lok, in which he gave us his trust. We have always thanked him for lending us a hand, cherishing and supporting Hong Kong films. As a part of Hong Kong film, we hope to continue to contribute." Lau Chun Him said, "We fight together in the film, but actually people rarely have the opportunity to do one thing without regret, so the scene in the movie is deeply and touching to me." Wu Tsz Tung found the reunion scenes of the four sons in the film unforgettable, pointing out that the story taught them to do what they thought they should -- just like doing his own jobs well and improving Hong Kong. Cheung Man Kit said that for the scene with Tornado and Wong Gau, they were very emotional and very heartbroken on the day of the filming. It was very profound to him.

The Hong Kong Film Development Council (FDC), Create Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) set up a Hong Kong Pavilion at the Cannes Film Market during the Cannes Film Festival, organizing 6 networking events, 5 industry networking events and 9 film screenings to showcase a wide range of outstanding Hong Kong films to filmmakers from around the world.

Koo Tin Lok and the film team, together with the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kevin Yeung Yun Hung, attended the "Hong Kong Night" reception that was organized by the Hong Kong Film Development Council, Create Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at the Cannes Film Festival. The event invited more than 600 industry professionals from all over the world to exchange views and discuss collaboration opportunities. Aside from the TWILIGHT team, many film directors and filmmakers like Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, Cheuk Wan Chi, Wing Shya, Sylvia Chang and the fresh out of the oven Hong Kong Film Awards Best Supporting Actress Rachel Leung Yung Ting were present, as well as Permanent Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism Joe Wong Chi-jo, Assistant Director of Create Hong Kong and Secretary General of the Film Development Council Gary Mak Shing-hei, and members of the Hong Kong Film Development Council Angus Chan Lo-chiu, Mathew Tang Hon-keung, Tsui Kuan, Frankie Yeung Wai-shing and Cora Yim Ka-yin all attended the event to show their support for the development of the Hong Kong film industry. During the ceremony, the winners of the Hong Kong-Asian Film Collaboration Funding Scheme to promote the expansion of co-productions in Asia and international markets were announced. Kwan Kam Peng, Jun Li Chun Shek and Cheuk Wan Chi represented the two award winning projects in sharing their experience and photo opportunities. A number of Hong Kong films would be screened at the Cannes Market, including LOVE LIES, PEG O' MY HEART, AN ABANDONED TEAM, FIGHT FOR TOMORROW and VITAL SIGNS, none of which have been released in Hong Kong yet.

Since its release early this month, TWILIGHT's box office kept climbing. As of two day ago the Hong Kong box office was HK$ 55,187,318 and the mainland box office exceeded 500 million yuan. The "Four Sons of the Walled City" in order to thank viewers for their support last night went live from Cannes to share the joy with viewers and fans. The film's original novel author Yu Yi also shared good news on social media, citing that TWILIGHT would become a trilogy with TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: DRAGON THRONE (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI LUNG TAU) and TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: THE FINAL CHAPTER (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI JUNG JEUNG). In addition to the Koo Tin Lok and Aaron Kwok Fu Sing played "Tornado" and "Ah Jim" respectively, the internet has been looking forward to who will play the character "Lui Chun Tung", who has not yet appeared. The official social media of TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN later also announced that the team has confirmed the production of the prequel and final chapter of TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS, namely the "Tornado" mentioned DRAGON THRONE in the film; and the extension of the story of "The Four Youths of the Walled City" in THE FINAL CHAPTER. Reportedly the creative and production team would be the original team, but no casting has been revealed. Lau Chun Him became popular for playing Shun Yat in the film, and it is rumored that a movie about the character would start production. Some online discover on the Hong Kong Film Development Council's funding schemes website that UNDERWORLD (GAU LUNG SING JAI SHUN YUT JUEN) was selected for the "Content Development Scheme For Streaming Platform " and was approved to raise $1.2 million in February this year. According to the information, Cheang Pou Soi would produce, and Jonathan Li Tsz Chun would direct.

On the same day, he also visited the Hong Kong exhibition organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council at the Cannes Film Festival, which brought together a number of Hong Kong film companies to show and sell Hong Kong films to the world. It is understood that the Hong Kong films on display and sale on the spot include TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING), PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG), WE ARE FAMILY (CHOOK JO GA YUN), LOVE LIES (NGO TAM DIK NA CHEUNG LUEN OI), VITAL SIGN (SUNG YUEN TOH JUNG), POSSESSION STREET (CHEH MALL), GOOD GAME (JOOK DIN) and others.

During the Cannes Film Festival, Kevin Yeung will officiate at the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong Pavilion, the "Hong Kong Night" reception, and will attend the "Midnight Screening" Hong Kong Film Screening and the "Chinese Youth Film Night" to promote the development of Hong Kong films in the international market.

TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN was selected for the midnight screening segment of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. Louis Koo Tin Lok has arrived in Cannes with director Soi Cheang Pou Soi and the "Four Youths of the Walled City" Raymond Lam Fung, Terrance Lau Chun Him, Tony Wu Tsz Tung and German Cheung Man Kit. They were ready to attend the midnight screening on the evening of the 16th. Earlier, Koo Tin Lok posted a photo of their group dining on social media and wrote, "The film TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN's Kowloon Walled City team gets together in Cannes, and we will see you at the midnight screening of the Cannes Film Festival tonight." The team also met with local media.

"The Strongest in the Universe" Donnie Yen Chi Tan will start filming the JOHN WICK 4 spin off next year. Determined to promote the Hong Kong film industry, he has successfully lobbied film companies to use Hong Kong as a location. The filming footage of his new film THE PROSECUTOR (NG POON) has been unveiled at the Cannes Film Festival and appeared on the cover of an international film magazines.

The golden partnership of the IP MAN film series, Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Raymond Wong Pak Ming produced, Yen Chi Tan directed and starred film with a production cost over HK$ 300 million, THE PROSECUTOR (NG POON) was filmed on location and on constructed sets in Hong Kong. The film made its first appearance at this year's Cannes International Film Festival, its first international poster even landed on the cover of the international film magazine SCREEN INTERNATIONAL! On the cover, Yen Chi Tan was wearing a legal robe, his eyes were firmly looking ahead, and his hands were injured and holding the scales tightly; showing that this time Chi Tan would face new challenges. Playing the prosecutor for the first time, he would be fighting for justice!

Distributors around the world have flocked to buy the distribution rights. The film has signed contracts with distributors in many parts of the world, including Germany, Italy, the Middle East, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, etc., and showed that Chi Tan is very popular all over the world.

The Chi Tan, Julian Cheung Chi Lam and other starred Hong Kong film THE PROSECUTOR unveiled its stills and highlight in Cannes. THE PROSECUTOR was based on a real case in Hong Kong, telling the story of a a courier package triggered wrongful conviction case: a young man was involved in a drug trafficking case for helping a friend collect a courier package, which led to a 27-year prison sentence. In the film the Yen Chi Tan played prosecutor saw the loopholes in the case and tried to correct this wrongful conviction, but discovers deeper dark events in the process of finding the truth. This was Chi Tan's first time in a legal themed film and playing a prosecutor who would risk everything for justice. When asked why he picked the legal subject this time, the story moved him. "I think there is justice behind this story, a value of integrity that is worthy of us to deliver; there are also many exciting action scenes, which is a great challenge for me." His performance as the prosecutor this time felt very fresh to everyone. Chi Tan said that he really needed to be able to be both in the drama and the action this time: "This role has to impress and shock the audience with both drama and action, only then would it the most powerful!"

This time, in addition to the first shocking release of the international version of the poster, three stills were also released; all three of which were different scenes of Donnie Yen in the film, not only was he wearing a legal robe to make a statement in court, but also taking on many in a fight scene, as well as a tense scene of a confrontation with the enemy with guns in the MTR. He not only played the protagonist in dramatic and action scenes, but also the director and directed the whole film. Many people would think that holding three positions would be very hard, but Yen Chi Tan did not think much of it. "I don't think it is worth talking about how hard the work is. Judges and prosecutors who fight for justice in real life deserve what little effort I give."

Regarding the official release of the first poster at the Cannes Film Festival, he said that he is very much looking forward to seeing the work with the audience, "I am getting more and more excited, more and more emotional, I hope to let the audience see this work as soon as possible!"

THE PROSECUTOR was also the first film of Raymond Wong Pak Ming and Yen Chi Tan after they announced their Mandarin Pictures strategic partnership last year, and the two will continue to co-produce the upcoming FLASH POINT 2 and IP MAN 5, which fans are looking forward to! He also announced that he would work with many heavyweight and new generation actors.

[2024.05.16] LOUIS KOO HAS HOPES TO JAM WITH "SHUN YAT" AT AUDIENCE APPRECIATION EVENTS

courtesy of singtao.com

Starring Louis Koo Tin Lok, Raymond Lam Fung and others, the Hong Kong Film Awards winning director Soi Cheang Pou Soi directed film TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) grew braver as it battled on. Yesterday on the Buddha's Birthday public holiday the film already passed HK$ 50 million at its morning box office. Koo Tin Lok led the "Four Sons of the Walled City" in the film, Raymond Lam Fung, Tony Wu Tsz Tung, Terrance Lau Chun Him and German Cheung Man Kit to, announce the good news on the film's official social network. With a smile that "Tornado" would hold a microphone instead of cigarette, he hoped "Tornado " next time would jam with "Shun Yat" on a song!

TWILIGHT as of 11 PM two nights ago had a total box office of HK$ 48,088,577 in Hong Kong and Macau. Yesterday morning on the Buddha's Birthday public holiday the figure has already exceeded HK$ 50 million at the box office in the morning. The film's official social media site posted

As of 11 o'clock two night ago (14th), the total box office of TWILIGHT in Hong Kong and Macao was HK$ 48,088,577, and it had exceeded HK$ 50 million at the box office in just one morning during the Buddha's Birthday Public Holiday next morning. The film's official social media site posted a video of Dragon Head boss "Tornado" Koo Tin Lok leading the "Four Sons of the Walled City" stars Lam Fung, Tony Wu Tsz Tung, Terrance Lau Chun Him and German Cheung Man Kit to announce the good news and asked viewers who still have not seen the movie to hurry up and go.

The official social media site of the film TWILIGHT mentioned in a post, "This time our Dragon Head Boss Tornado would hold a microphone instead of a cigarette, as we have an important event to announce. TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN's box office has exceeded HK$ 50 million!! Thank you very much for your support from the Walled City neighborssss, setting record again and again until even our Big Bossessss would recognize you! PS: I hope that next time Tornado and Shun Yat would both hold microphones and jam on a song." Seeming Koo Tin Lok would have the opportunity to sing with Lau Chun Him at any time at audience appreciation events.

In addition, experienced action directors Cheung Man Kit and Philip Ng Won Lung were recently invited to attend a special student screening and exchange views with more than 100 secondary school and university students. They even invited a student and a teacher to interact with them on the stage. Cheung Man Kit performed a back flip on the spot, and picked up a male student the back flip experience as well. Cheung Man Kit was asked if his desire to perform was affected because his character "Sei Jai" had to be masked. He admitted that even he asked if anyone could play the role. When he took this type he had the mentality of "years of practicing just for one opportunity" when he took this role. At first the crew made fun of his mask for looking like a pair of underwear, which made him feel embarrassed.

The movie TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI JI WAI SING) was released on the 14th. Driven by word-of-mouth, the box office exceeded HK$ 46 million as of 3 PM yesterday. Ng Won Lung, who played the villain "Wong Gau" in the film, has soared in popularity. In addition to his outstanding performance, he still maintained his demeanor and was praised for his moral integrity after a viewer attacked him at an audience appreciation event. He was also "Wong Gau" when promoting the film: "What? You haven't watched TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN yet? Are you kidding! The box office has exceeded 45 million! Hahaha!" The film was selected for the "Midnight Screening Section" of the Cannes Film Festival. Louis Koo Tin Lok and director Soi Cheang Pou Soi led the "Four Young Masters of the Walled City" to Cannes. Today, Philip Ng Won Lung takes the lead and brought Nine Bamboos (Chu Pak Hong) to a 10 consecutive "Return to Righteousness" audience appreciation shows.

Ng Won Lung has been practicing martial arts since he was a child. He has been in the industry for 23 years. He played the domineering role of "Wong Gau" in TWILIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN, and his wonderful martial arts has won him word of mouth. Ng Won Lung described the film as one of the most interesting roles he has ever played, "This character is so crazy, he does a lot of strange tricks, he will bite off a knife and use it to stab people. Wow, when I first thought about how special the scenes were, I was excited before filming. The results turned out great, I'm so pleased."

Not all actors are willing to accept the role of a villain. Ng Won Lung said that he had no idol baggage. In addition, he has always admired director Cheang Pou Soi and liked his film style. Even though it was their first collaboration, he was very confident in his casting arrangement and agreed to perform right away. "Director Soi felt that I have already made a lot of movies. Since everyone knew me, he suggested that it was time to try something new. In addition to coming up with very crazy ideas, he also knew how to explore the potential of actors. When filming dramatic scenes, he always let me try to act with different emotions. After making this movie I have fallen in love with Director Soi even more, out of a scale of 10 I love him 18."

During the filming Ng Won Lung risked his life for the performance, tore the ligaments along with muscles of his right leg. He said that the injury was innocent. "I was filming the stair jumping scene in the alley of the Walled City. I thought the action was very simple, so I didn't change the prop shoes and keep on my leather shoes for the shoot; but the leather shoe soles were too thin, and there was no insole to relieve the force. I jumped to the ground and bang I was hurt. Fortunately, I rested for a week after the injury. Only then I was able to film the chase scene on Nathan Road." He said that he could take painkillers and bandage the wound to treat his injuries. Instead, when he filmed the battle scene Raymond Lam Fung, Terrance Lau Chun Him, Tony Wu Tsz Tung and German Cheung Man Kit he accidentally kicked Wu Tsz Tung on the chin. Wu had to be hospitalized for 15 stitches and he felt guilty, "When I treated I bought Wu Tsz Tung 15 drinks to make up for it. He was great and had a strong character. Because he was a professional baseball player, he didn’t blame me. I'm very grateful to him. It was the first time I kicked and hurt someone in my film career, I have to blame the leather shoes."

Speaking of the action scenes in the film with elders "Big Brother Big" Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Koo Tin Lok (Goo Jai) and Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai) (Siu Chai). Ng Won Lung said that although it was his second film with a fight scene with Big Brother Big, the pressure was also very high. He did not want to see any injury again, but he had to support his body from behind for balance and also had to take into account his acting. He was stumped and relied on the guidance of an experienced elder Big Brother Big, "He is very amazing, he would explain how to achieve the scene the director wanted. The positioning was very accurate and very safe, and the shoot was completed in one take." As for the action scene with Siu Chai, which was only one scene, Ng Won Lung laughed and said that he and Siu Chai talked a lot outside the scene, "Siu Chai is a super nice guy. We have many mutual friends in Taiwan, such as Ng Kin Ho (Vannes Wu)." Having filmed several movies with Goo Jai before, this time they met again and Ng Won Lung said that he felt comfortable and relaxed, "There was a scene in which I had to chop his back repeatedly, and I felt sorry. Goo Jai very readily said that it was no problem and asked me to do it as directed."

Hung Kam Bo earlier publicly stated that it was difficult to find a successor for action films, was Ng Won Lung ready to take over? He said he did not dare to take it; but since his contract with Wong Jing's management company expired in 2019, he formed his own office to develop his acting career independently. He previously went to the United States to serve as an action director for Hollywood movies. He recently returned to Hong Kong and completed the first project of his own company, the action film MO MING FOR (NAMELESS FIRE). He said, "Being an actor is very passive. Setting up your own company gives you greater freedom, and you can make the production international. The team uses my contacts in Asia to do what they want; like if I prefer to package kung fu with science fiction subjects, I can. The funding can come from all directions."

The 46 year old Ng Won Lung after going to Hollywood to develop his career doubled his net worth. Has he saved enough money to get married? He said that financially he had a foundation and he hoped to tie the knot soon. "Now I have no date. I have tried to go out and meet different people, hoping to find someone compatible. I have always been in a hurry, but I'm also picky. Of course I hope to find a caring and beautiful wife, the most important thing is that she has to love me. (Do you regret missing out on your ex?) No, I think this is God's arrangement, or it’s fate. However long two people can be together is however long, most of those I have dated have become good friends and have kept in touch. (Are you still good friends with Linda Chung Ka Yun?) Don't name names, I don't want to involve others and don't want to affect other people's lives either. In short, I take every relationship seriously. I wouldn't do anything to hurt them; but when some parts of the relationship just don't fit together they turn into break ups. I think marriage depends on timing."

[2024.05.14] AFTER 19 YEARS SEAN LAU AND FRANCIS NG ENGAGES IN A WAR OF WORDS

The Andy Lau Tak Wa producer, Herman Yau Lai To directed and written, Sean Lau Ching Wan and Francis Ng Chun Yu starred new film CRISIS NEGOTIATORS (TAM POON JUEN GA) has announced that it will be released in Hong Kong on June 13th. Wa Jai and Yau Lai To after SHOCK WAVE (CHAK DAN JUEN GA) again as producer and producer brought another film in the "expert" series. Two Best Actors Ching Wan and Chun Yu worked together again after a 19 years gap since the 2005 film HIMALAYA SINGH, and both played negotiators in their new film. A police station hostage case triggered the heroic duo's war of wits and words as they "negotiated".

Unveiled for the first time on the poster, Ching Wan and Chun Yu wore body armor with firm expressions and gestured "one" and "two" respectively, which not only hinted at their role status but also indicated that a contest about psychology and intelligence was about to begin. In the trailer, the short "negotiation" clip between the two protagonists was already very exciting. There seemed to be a deeper mystery behind the negotiation. The Lau Ching Wan played negotiator Cheuk Man Wai unexpectedly transformed into a bold kidnapper, and infiltrated the police station to take hostages. His rich negotiation experience left the police helpless. Cheuk Man Wai insisted on only "negotiating" with another negotiator, Tse Ka Chun (Ng Chun Yu), and the situation was immediately turned around. As experts traded barbs, the war of words became a tug of war. As the negotiation went off and on, they battled wits and might with the snipers who have surrounded the police station.

CRISIS NEGOTIATORS is adapted from the 1998 Hollywood battle of wits THE NEGOTIATOR, which also starred two actors Samuel L. Jackson and Kevin Spacey. Also the screenwriter, Yau Lai To has reinterpreted this classic work with a new perspective and narrative approach. Ching Wan said that the story adaptation was excellent and quite exciting. "Very dramatic, very anti-climatic, very entertaining script." This time, Director Yau focused on another important profession in the disciplined forces, negotiators, and he was very excited to take on the new challenge. "This time I was shooting a different kind of police film, and the negotiator is a profession that is hardly represented in Chinese films." Excelling action blockbusters in recent years, Director Yau has returned to direct the primarily dramatic story this time and still maintained his usual style in the film. The negotiation scenes were no less tense than his previous big productions. In addition to the two Best Actors, Michael Miu Kiu Wai, Philip Keung Ho Man, Kent Cheng Juk Si, Michael Chow Man Kit, Wong Yau Nam, Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling, Chu Pak Him, Kevin Chu Kam Yin, Yeung Wai Lun and other powerful actors all provided supporting performance.
